Get to know us better
Renewable electricity has a long history, and for many years the technology was out of reach to most of us.
Back in 2002 when founder Alicia Leinberger started the non-profit Seventh Generation Energy Systems, renewable energy was still very new and unknown to most. We focused on building small systems to demonstrate electricity generation at homes and businesses. We were growing with Wisconsin's nationally recognized energy efficiency and renewable initiatives.
By the time ETHOS GREEN POWER began in 2013, the landscape had changed dramatically. Wisconsin had lost its place as a leader in renewable energy, surpassed by Minnesota and Illinois, while Iowa had become one of the leading wind generators in the country. It's high time Wisconsin joins our neighbors to reaffirm our commitment to common sense energy policy that encourages a shift to a cleaner more cost effective generation.
Our MISSION today is to provide the highest quality renewable energy services to the rural areas surrounding Viroqua, WI. Ethos demonstrates how we will create new jobs for our young people, stabilize the cost of electricity, and move away from our dependence on costly fossil fuels. A new rural economy as clean energy generators.
ETHOS CORE FOCUS
We understand the urgency of our climate crisis, and believe in creating a culture to electrify and decarbonize with locally-owned renewable energy systems.
As of 2020 we have more than 1170 kW (4158 solar panels) operating in our network of customers. That's 1466 MWh of power, enough to power 170 houses every year. It's just the beginning of what we're capable of together.
WE ARE ETHOS GREEN POWER
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
GET TO KNOW THE OWNER
Everything has always appeared as connected to me. And so much of what we do today takes energy. So of course, how we get our power makes a huge difference.
I stumbled on renewable energy when I was about 30, after graduating from the UW Madison with a degree in Conservation Ecology and serving three years in Central America Peace Corps. My first real "job" was teaching about fair trade coffee, and how what you buy has a big impact on the farmers on the other end. I worked with Equal Exchange Cooperative for seven years connecting farmers with consumers.
In 2002, a group of us founded Seventh Generation Energy Systems, a non-profit dedicated to implementation through education. After a decade in Madison, I founded Ethos Green Power in Viroqua to bring renewables to southwest Wisconsin.
