First, light from the sun is absorbed daily by solar cells.

Next, light creates energy through a semiconductor.

Semiconductors are used to transfer electricity from a conducting material to a nonconducting material.

Then, sunlight provides the energy that is actively gathered and stored in a battery to power your electrical system. 

 

Finally, the electricity is either used by the homeowner, stored in a battery, or sold back to the utility company.

How much does a solar installation cost?


Not as much as you think! A typical 1,500 square foot home requires a 6 kilowatt (kW) solar panel system, costing $18,500. However, smaller systems producing 3kW cost approximately $9,255 and larger systems producing 8kW are close to $24,500 on average. Solar doesn't have a "cookie cutter" way to determine price depending on different variables that go into the pricing, installation, and incentives. Will my solar system still generate electricity when it’s cloudy?


Of course! Solar energy is produced any time solar panels are exposed to light--rain or shine--because photovoltaic panels can use direct or indirect sunlight to generate power. Sunny days will generate power more effectively, but even on cloudy days power will still be produced.




How do I know if solar is right for me?


We help you determine if your site enjoys a good solar resource. Sometimes it takes a little creativity and sometimes the site is not suitable for solar. Some landscapes and surrounding foliage make for better installs than others, so look for areas that have plenty of southern sun exposure either on your roof or in your yard. Will solar panels generate enough electricity to power my entire home or business?


Yes! Solar panels are more than capable of producing enough electricity to power a home. Every home is different, so we will assess what it will take to provide total power for your home and design a beautiful custom solar array to meet your unique needs.




What solar panel incentives are available?


In Wisconsin, you can take advantage of a 26% tax credit after installing your system. That means if your solar system costs you $20,000 you’ll receive a $5,200 tax credit. You’ll also get a 100% tax exemption for the increased value of your home after installing your solar power system. Focus on Energy can give up to a $1,000 rebate to cover the cost of installation for your home or up to $50,000 for Wisconsin businesses.




What are your warranties?


The production on our solar panels is warrantied for 25 years. Our inverters are warrantied for 12 years automatically, but we extend that warranty to 20 years for added peace of mind.
